New house.... お古だけど、新しいおうち

We finally got a picture of Sora in her new house. Sunday morning and tired after a walk along the lakefront to town and then back via the park.　朝寝中のソラです。　でも、完全には眠ってない。ちら、ちらっとカメラを見てる。　おうちの中には、すでにスクイキーステータスを失ったぬいぐるみ達。　サファリシリーズ（Ｍが勝手に名づけてる）のライオン（河童ではありません）とティガーが手前に見えてます。　キリンは、他のベッドで寝てます。

Supper time! 今日はなぁに？

Around 8 or 8.30 pm we usually have tea and some small dessert and Sora gets some kind of treat. She's got used to the routine so much that when we walk towards the kitchen any time after about 7.30 pm she thinks its supper time and waits for her treat.　　私達が、ゆっくりと、夜食のお菓子を食べ、お茶を飲みたいから…という人間サイドの勝手な理由のためにソラが身につけてしまった習慣。　ちなみにソラがおやつとしてもらうのは、ヴェニスン（食肉用の鹿）の耳か、ビーフストライプ（干した牛肉）か、チキンの味付けして干したようなもの…過去には、ヴェニスンで40分くらい稼げたけど、今は10分くらいで食べ終えてしまうソラ。　オー・ディア！

Stitches out! バッシ！

Sora had her stitches out this morning. She was really great at the vets but it took three of us to hold her while the vet removed the stitches. She had developed a small lump near the incision that contained some bloody fluid which the vet removed too - not a big problem. This afternoon we went walking at Whakamoenga Point near Acacia Bay. Sora had a great time. She's now having a snooze.　手術の時は、全身麻酔だったけど、抜糸はどうやるのかなぁ？と不思議に思ってたのですが、ただ、押さえつけて、身動きとれなくして、糸を抜くだけでした。”だけ”が、大変だったんだけど…そりゃ、いくら病院慣れしているソラでも、お腹を見せて、そこから糸を10以上抜くというのは、暴れまくりますよねぇ…それでも、堪忍したのか、クーン、クーンとときたま泣くだけで、ソラは、ほとんどじっとしてました。その後、たまってしまった液体をお腹から注射で、抜く時も、注射の針がささっても、じっとしてて、偉かったねソラ…
午後のお昼寝の後、アカシアベイの岬のひとつにあるトラックで、自由に歩き回ったのが、ご褒美。このトラックは、昔ルマと一緒によくあるいたところ。　ソラは、当たり前だけど、リードなしだと、本当に嬉しそうに跳ね回ってるという感じ。　　

Winter...but... 春には、まだまだ遠いけど...

This is also a photo of Sora from yesterday morning.  She was sitting in front of a plum tree, which had just started blooming. 　昨日の朝の雪見散歩の時に、梅の花がほころび始めたのを見つけ、雪の丘をバックに記念撮影？　今朝は、もう丘の雪は溶けてしまって見られなかったけど、南に目を向けると、トンガリロの山々はさらにしっかりと雪化粧してました。

Wow snow! 雪です...ぶるっ

It's snowing today, not here in the town, but outside of the town, Kinloch, Wairakei and so on.  We can see snow on the hill from here. We saw a car covered with the snow, which was parked just a minute walk from here. 　The owner of the car must live somewhere out there.  I was not sure Sora could recognise snow, but I'm sure she will enjoy playing in the snow.  今朝は、雪の積もった丘を見に散歩に行きました。　Ｓのオフィスのあるワイラケイでは、雪が降っているとのこと。　いっぱい着込んで出掛けたけど、思ったほど寒くはなく、カメラ片手に朝の散歩を楽しんでいる人が結構いました。

Feet... クローズアップ...ソラの足.

We've talked about Sora's front feet before, but haven't yet shown a photo. We are careful to walk her on grass, and recently have been using shoes, but you can see how much her middle two toes are still worn down. Her spinal issues are fortunately not having a significant . effect on her at the moment, but the day-day health of her front feet is a bit of a concern. ソラの足の中指はこんな状態です。　前足をひきづりながら歩くため、中指２本の爪が削れて短く、指もこすって皮膚が破けて、出血してしまうことも多々。　靴は、そうした問題を軽減するために履かせています。ただ、左足の方が、靴が、まわってしまうためか、靴ずれを５本目の指の際に起こしてしまうという、違った問題が生じてます。　あちら立てば、こちら立たずですね。　彼女の脊髄神経系のほう（後ろ足）は、幸いなことに今は、際立った問題を起こしていないようにみえます。　明るいサイドを見たいと思う気持ちが勝っているかもしれませんが。。。クロスフィンガーズ。

Sora's stitches.... お見せします

Sora's stitches are doing well. Her incision looks really big but she doesn't seem at all bothered by it.　無邪気にころがっているソラ。　手術の傷跡は順調に癒えているよう。　かなり大きく■に剃られてしまったお腹、無防備...　

Busy week ...ああ、忙し、近況報告…

Sora has had a busy week. At the weekend she graduated from her cage to her new house. The new house used to be Ruma's. It is a little higher, slightly longer and not so wide. She has taken to it really well. On Tuesday she had her first night at the Dog School beginners course, more about that later. And on Wednesday she was spayed, so she can't have puppies. After being sleepy Wednesday night she woke us at 5.30 am this morning looking really good. She had a wound about 15 cm long with 5-10 stitches.　ソラは、先週末にケージを卒業しました。　今は、ルマのおさがりの犬小屋が彼女のおうち。　すんなりと、新しいおうちにも馴染んでいるようでほっとしています。　そして、今週からは、オビディエントのクラスも始まり、寒さにもかかわらず、20匹の（主に）子犬が集まったとか…翌日は、去勢手術。　朝8時に獣医さんに行き、夕方4時に帰ってきました。その日の晩は、まだ麻酔とか痛み止めの影響で、眠くて眠くてボーっとしてましたが、翌朝からいつものソラ。　手術の傷跡は結構大きくて、でも、ソラはあまり気にしている様子もなく、良かった、良かった。

Sunday excursion...Look at YOU! ソラ、そら走る！

   We went for a walk along the Redwoods track this morning.  It was a bit chilly and still foggy.  Sora enjoyed her second day out with her red shoes.  She's been coping very well with the shoes and looked quite comfortable.  We think she's a remarkable little doggy.  今朝は、フカフォールズのそばのレッドウッズトラックを散歩。　森の中には、霜は降りていなかったけれど、鬱蒼とした木々に囲まれたあたりは、結構ひんやり。　少し開けたところでは、霧の間、木々の間を通して射す太陽の光が優しい。　ソラは、やはり、リード無しで自由に走り回るのが好きなよう。　白い息を背に走る走る。　すっかり、靴にもなじんだよう。

Can I drink ice? 冷っこい！

This morning there was another heavy frost. Sora wanted a drink from the fish pond but it was frozen. She seemed a little confused. 舌がはっつかないように気をつけてね...

Happy feet.... ソラの赤い靴

Sora has new shoes! Because she scuffs her front feet when walking she can hurt them and potentially get a bad infection. To avoid this we've got Sora some shoes. They are built just like sneakers and are really robust. Today we tried them for the first time and she was great! At about $60 they are a lot cheaper than several visits to the vet if she gets an infection. Lets go walking....前足をひきずるせいで、中指を傷つけてしまうことが多くてどうしよう...と、思っていた時に、Ｓが犬の靴を販売するサイトを見つけ、早速注文。　サイズを測るのが難しく、最初のは小さすぎて、2回めの注文で、やや大きいながらも彼女に合う靴が見つかりました。　初めて靴を履くソラもハードかもしれないけど、履かせるほうも、結構難しい。　やっぱり、赤い靴を履いた犬は目立つ。　”かわいい～”という声がほとんど、だったけど...　”犬も足が冷たくなるのかなぁ？”という声も。　ライオンズウォークの途中で、突然現れた2歳のブラックラブラドール、ベンスンのオーナーだけは、”どこか、悪いとこがあるの？”と聞いてくれました。　ソラにとっての、赤い靴初体験のハイライトはベンソンと少しだけど遊べたことかなぁ？

Keep your dog busy for hours.... あっという間に...

According to the label these chews keep your dog busy for hours. Not if you have a 5 1/2 month old German Shepherd. In that case they last barely an hour!　これは、私達の夜のおやつ時間にソラにもあげるおやつ（私達がゆっくりお茶をできるよう）なのですが、なんだか、この頃、ソラの食べ方に加速がついてるみたいです。　後、夜のおやつをソラに習慣化させてしまったみたいで反省...8時前後になると、ちょっとキッチン方向へ向うだけで、遊んでいたおもちゃを放り出し、眠っていたら、むっくと起きて、我先にキッチンへ向うソラ。　トホホ...

Good waiting! 待つのが上手？

It's lunch time.  Sora's patiently waiting the word "OK".  She definitely knows sounds of "lunch", "dinner",too,  we reckon.  ソラは、確実に待つことができるようになってきた。最初は、この子は餓鬼？と、思うほどに吼えまくり、ジャンプしまくりで、ロープを首輪につけて、ひきとめたりと大変だったけど、それがうそのよう。（あ、ちょっと過大評価...時々は、支度が遅いと、クーンクーンとなきます）　朝食、夕食時にはもう少し餌をもらえます。　ちなみに、体重を痩せ気味に抑えるために、ドッグフードの袋の表示よりは少な目ですが。

Super hearing！ なんでも聞こえるの？

Yes, she's got excellent hearing.  She can hear things we can't hear at all, but sometimes she hears things in her dreams.　何かに耳を澄ませている時のソラ（全てのジャーマンシェパード？）は耳がピンと立ってキュートだと思うのだけど、時々空耳！？でむっくと起き上がって、ほえ始めるのはちょっと困る。

Helping with gardening...リトルヘルパー

This morning we spent a little while in the garden doing some winter tidying. Sora came along to help and spent much of the time having fun with an empty paint bucket.　ここのところ、ずーっと雨続き、ちょっとの晴れ間を利用して、庭の雑草取り。冬だけど、はびこって欲しくない雑草は元気。　あと、湿った陽気のせいで、苔だらけの庭。ソラは、なんでも参加型。あっちへ行ったり、こっちへ行ったり、バケツに遊んでもらうまでは...

Under construction... そろそろ．．．

Sora's undergone to transformation in her sleeping arrangement these days.  At first she starts in our room and later moves to her normal bed. Its all part of slowly weaning her off her cage. We like to do things slowly.　　ソラもそろそろ、ケージで鍵をかけられて眠るのから、脱皮の段階。　　先週末から二人の寝室に、彼女ようのブランケットを置きました。　最初は、そこで寝てるけど、数時間後には、やっぱり自分のケージにもどって行きます。

My favourite... 負けないぞ…！

We're playing one of Sora's favourite game, tug of war. Most dog training kind of books said we shouldn't let dog win. According to the books it's related to leadership issue.  We've also found she likes a piece of cord as her chewing material.  綱引きが好きなソラ。　ついつい彼女に勝たせてしまうのは、良くないことらしい。　勝たせてあげてると、何度でも何度でも、戻ってきてひっぱれという。　こっちが、勝つと”えっ？”て顔して、興味を失う傾向あり。

Sora has been loosing teeth almost daily the last week or so and we have carefully been collecting them. We now have a pretty good selection. 　落ちてるは、落ちてるは？　部屋の中で、おもちゃとかをかじってる時に抜けるのか？　上あご、下あごからだと思うけど、こうして並ぶと恐竜の歯の化石みたいですね。

Waiting to come inside ...辛抱強い時もある…

As she gets older Sora is becoming quite a patient little dog. The other day she was  in the garden then decided she wanted to be inside. Rather than making a big fuss she waited patiently outside to be let in.　　二人の間で多少の意見の違いはあるけれど…ソラは、少しづつ待つこともできるようになったのかなぁ？　この写真、ソラの首の下のタプタプがすごい！？首輪からハンギング…Ｏｈ　Ｄｅａｒ…

Nap time ... 昼寝は重要な日課…

Its Saturday so Sora slept till almost 7 am. After Sora's breakfast we went into town to buy some pastry for our breakfast. Once we started eating Sora retired to bed for a nap. When we eat she usually does this so we can usually eat in peace. As she has never received any food from us while we are eating she doesn't really associate our eating with the chance to get something else herself. This afternoon we went to the park for 2 hours to watch running. Sora enjoyed all the activity, but is now very tired and having her afternoon nap.　ソラは、少しづつでは、ありますが、良い習慣（私達にとって）を身に着けつつあります。　　お陰で、ゆっくりと食事をとれることが、多くなりました。　夕食時は、さらなるワインがすすみます。　ただ、ソラがまったく、人間の食べ物に興味がない？というのは、私達の期待感が勝っているかも？　午後のクロスカントリィの観戦は、大きな公園での催しだったので、ソラも楽しめたかと思います。
 

Kennel visit ....体験しました！

The other day Sora spent the day at the local kennel. Two reasons, we wanted a day to ourselves and we want Sora to get used to going to the kennel for when we want to go away. She was just in from 8.30 am to 4.30 pm so a quick introduction. It sounds like she had a good time. With all the excitement she was pretty tired afterwards. Next we'll have her stay overnight.　ソラが来てから、二人でどこもいってないねぇ～というのと、ソラ自体にケンネルに慣れてもらうので、1日だけ（それでもＳは心配！）ケンネルに預かってもらいました。　エクササイズタイムには、他の犬（スタッドフォッシャーテリアＸ）と仲良く、転びながらも、走り回っていたらしく、良かった良かった。　なぜか、（ルマもそうだったけど）ケンネルから帰ってくると、いいにおいのソラ。
